Speaking in the East German city of Jena, Beck warned that the signing of the agreement to deploy the controversial anti-missile system would trigger a new round of global rearmament.
It will also set a wrong signal in these tension-filled times, added Beck, alluding to the Russian-Georgian conflict.
Earlier in the day, Poland and the US sealed a deal to set up a planned missile defense base on Polish territory that has aroused tensions with Poland's arch-foe, Russia.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski signed the agreement in Warsaw to deploy 10 US missile interceptors as well as Patriot air defense missiles in Poland.
Russia has lambasted the stationing of the US anti-missile system in Poland and the radar track system in the Czech Republic, branding it a threat to national security. --IRNA
